Review: Naked on the Run & Shiseido Oil Free Sunscreen

Hi everyone! As I mentioned in my previous post, two of my summer travel essentials are Urban Decay's Naked on the Run palette and Shiseido's Oil-Free Sunscreen. The palette is a great travel item because it consists of 6 shadows, a blush, bronzer, eyeliner, mascara (Perversion) and a lipgloss. It pretty much has everything I need in order to give my face a lift, and the shadow colors range from light to dark, making them great for both day and night.  I originally bought this palette more as a collection item (I have the Naked 1 & 2 and the Naked Basics 2), but have found myself reaching for it more and more everyday. While I love my neutral palettes, this one just makes it so convenient for travel because it literally has everything.

During the day, I like to use "5050" in my inner corners, "Dive" on the outer 2/3 of my lid, "Fix" as a blending color on my crease, and "Dare"to the outer corners for some depth. For night time, I'll deepen it up with "Stun", put on some eyeliner (smudge it out a bit) and add another layer of mascara and I'm good to go! As always, Urban Decay's shadows blend beautifully. The shade 5050 is meant to be used an eye shadow, but I also like to use it underneath my brows and as a highlighter on my cheeks and the bridge of my nose. The shades "Fix" and "Dare" are both matte and can also be used for the brows as well (which I have done when I forgot my Anastasia brow wiz!). I'm neutral about the bronzer on its own, but I do think it looks great when paired with the blush.

The Sesso Naked Lipgloss is surprisingly a very nice nude color, and can be worn on its own for a tint of color or over a lipstick for a bit of shine. I personally don't use the eyeliner too much because it smudges on  my mono lids, but there are beauty gurus out there who swears by them. They do glide on very nicely and do not tug at all, but unfortunately for me the staying power is not too great. On the other hand, the Urban Decay liquid eyeliner is smudge-free for me! Overall, there's not a single item in this palette that I have not used. The only downside is that if you ever run out of the mascara, eyeliner or lipgloss, it might be tricky finding one that would fit the slots since they are not full size. In my experience, however, Urban Decay always gives out samples of their 24/7 glide on pencil in "Zero" (a black eyeliner) and if you run out of the mascara, they will often have samples as well. If not, Lancome and Clinique tend to have a lot of gifts with purchase, and a mascara is usually included. You can swap them out if needed ;)

Finally, the one thing I use every single day regardless of whether or not I'm wearing make up is the Shiseido's Oil-Free sunscreen with SPF 42, and protects you against both UVA and UVB rays. Sunscreen is an everyday essential, and it's especially important during the summer when it's extra hot outside. The UV rays can cause skin cancer, premature wrinkles, sunspots, etc. While a lot of moisturizers nowadays tend to have SPF15-20, that's simply not enough unless you're planning to reapply throughout the day. Just multiply the SPF number by 10 and that's how long it will defend against the sun. For example, SPF 15 will protect you from the sun for 150 minutes or 2 1/2 hours. I usually wear at least SPF 40, which protects you from the sun for a little over 6 1/2 hours.

A lot of the sunscreens I have tried has the typical sunblock smell and greasy feeling. This sunscreen, however, has a watery/runny texture as you can see in the picture above, and is super light and weightless. In order to activate the sunscreen, you actually have to shake it up first before using. Despite the small bottle, a little goes a long way. One bottle usually lasts me about 3 months (I only use for my face, but I apply it very liberally). After you spread it out, it dries to an almost powdery finish, and within 30 seconds you won't even feel or smell anything. Even my boyfriend who hates wearing any sunscreen because of the sticky feeling approves of this sunblock. I've also converted my best friend and this is now one of her staple products. I have tried countless different sunscreens, including the Chanel and La Mer. While those are also great (they all have very similar consistency, which is more watery/runny), the latter 2 can definitely break the bank ($55 for 1 oz and $85 for 1.7 oz, respectively) whereas the Shiseido one costs about 1/2 the price ($32 for 1 oz) and is just as effective.

These two items have seriously made it so easy for me to pack my make up bag. If you haven't already, remember to read my previous post for more details on how to enter my Instagram (@serendiepityblog) giveaway for a chance to win these two items. It's super simple! All you have to do is follow, like, and tag a friend.

I hope you enjoy the review. If there's any product you're wondering about, chances are I have tried it already (and if I haven't would definitely look into it), and will be more than happy to give you my two cents! Have a great weekend and good luck if you enter the giveaway!
